John Carl Keller
-
Name John Carl Keller [1] Birth 7 Jun 1736 Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States
[1] - Birth recorded in Lancaster First Reformed Church book. [1]
Gender Male DAR/SAR Number DAR: A064293; SAR: P-340762. Military Service Bef 29 Aug 1782 Shenandoah County, Virginia, United States
[2] Patriotic service (gave material aid: furnished beef to Continental Army); public service claim certified 29 Aug 1782; Revolutionary War. Residence 1785 Shenandoah County, Virginia, United States
[3] Enumerated in 1785 on Jacob Rinker's list; 9 whites, 1 dwelling, and 1 other building. "The families listed by Rinker were about his home, Conicville, and in adjacent sections—Hudson's Cross Roads, Jerome, Liberty Furnace, Mt. Clifton, etc." (Wayland, p. 226). Another John Keller is enumerated on George Keller's list of households in Fort Valley (Wayland, p. 233-234). I don't believe this John Keller nor this enumerator George Keller are of my ancestry. My John Keller would have had a household of 9 at this time: him, his wife, and their seven children. However, land records could prove this theory wrong and need to be examined to sort out these Kellers. Event 8 Nov 1798 Greene County, Tennessee, United States
On 8 Nov 1798, "John Keller late of Shanadore County State of Virginia" purchased from Christopher Bullard for £400 a parcel of 400 acres in Greene County, Tennessee, on "both sides of Lick Creek." Death Bef 28 Nov 1806 United States
Will or Estate From 1807 to 26 Oct 1815 Greene County, Tennessee, United States
[6, 7] Partial probate proceedings for John Kellar/Keller are found in Greene County, Tennessee, records of 1807-1809. The administrators were Mary Kellar/Keller and Daniel Kellar/Keller and then just Daniel as "surviving administrator" by 26 Oct 1809. McCormick (p. 6) cites some of these records and states that the estate was settled on 26 Oct 1815; I have not found the original record for the settlement. Father George Keller, c. 17 May 1711, Weiler, Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
d. Bef 28 Mar 1783, Shenandoah County, Virginia, United States
(Age ~ 71 years) Mother Barbara Anna Hottel, b. 1713 d. 1798 (Age 85 years) Marriage Abt 1733 United States
- Online trees have marriage dates ranging from 1733 to 1737 and place as Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with no sources. The couple certainly married by the time the 7 Jun 1736 birth of son John Carl was recorded in Lancaster. His will names "eldest son George" followed by son-in-law Henry Fravel (husband of his daughter Anna) and then son John. Assuming the will follows the custom of naming children in birth order, George and Anna would have been born before John thus putting the marriage date closer to 1733, shortly after his and his wife's immigration.
